I dreamt of petey pirates last night
well they were in the dream I had, it wasnt a dream just about them LULZ
started off at a gig in Kentish Town which somehow became Norwich, we sorted out a friends house had a BBQ in the garden before going through Kentish Town again and ending up in Africa for a festival where the Pirates were playing, walked over grasslands, amongst hippos lazily eating to where the festival was, swam through a crocodile infested pond towards a huge sun, upon the next bank we chatted with the pirates about the set up and we watched the sunset through a light cloud cover, creating colours of blue purple pink yellow and orange all around.
so yeah if pirates want to make that come true I will be much obliged ![]()
was not so happy to be a woken up from that view of paradise by a hungry cat
the sun was seriously amazing, although the idea of going to Africa by getting out of the tube at Kentish Town was pretty incredible as well.
IF ONLY!

I have been really looking forward to the BRMC gigs in Holland next week but I saw a facebook status this week and kinda thought the gigs arent going to happen, something to do with Pukklepop is going to prevent the gigs from going ahead
kinda put it down to having rotten luck of late and I was too excited about them and maybe I should put on a more sensible head and calm down. Be realistic and understand that things change that sort of thing. None the less I stopped being so excited about the gigs.
Just heard via their forum that Michael Been who is the father of the bassist Rob and the sound technician has just passed away after the bands set
The cancellation of the gigs now just doesnt matter to me in the slightest I am completely gutted for the band and its an odd feeling to be upset for people whom you have never meet and never likely to
I am still going to Amsterdam and cannot wait to get away but now that trip is going to hold a different meaning of maybe living life to the full and being damn grateful for what I have

I attended a memorial service for a musician acquaintance this week. The band he played in hasn't played for quite awhile but it still left me reeling and choked up. He was only 41 yrs old and leaves behind a wife, 3 yr old son, and a baby on the way. People also shared their funny stories and happy memories of him so it wasn't completely somber.
On a lighter note, Tom Robinson played one of my submissions on this week's Introducing programme. It's so nice that he calls me his "Texas correspondent"
. Here's the link for this week's podcast : http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00tfsn2

I know
but they arent cancelling any of the gigs by the looks of things
utterly stunned by this and really full of admiration that they can carry on playing even though they have just lost a father and a colleague and friend
I actually dont want the gigs to happen now but cannot not go
if they are playing and pulling their strength together to play how can you not go when you dont know the guys
just such an odd situation
you dont feel like you should go to enjoy yourself when the performer is going to be in tremendous pain

A local artspace in Austin is going to recreate the Astoria. This should be interesting to watch. A call is being sent out for musicians to participate. It starts in Feb and runs through the 1st week of April.

Call for Musicians!
By Rachel | Published: January 11, 2011
Call for musicians and bands to help make art! London-based visual artist Graham Hudson seeks creatively-minded Austin musicians to collaborate on an experimental, interactive project that fuses music and art!
From February 4th through April 10th, British artist Graham Hudson will transform Arthouse (www.arthousetexas.org) into a monumental sculpture inspired by London’s famous music venue The Astoria Theatre. His installation will include a stage with audience seating made from scaffolding. Arthouse and Hudson seek musicians and bands who are open to creative exploration and experimentation to REHEARSE in this collaborative artwork that connects London’s past with Austin’s present through a multi-layered sculptural and musical experience.
Hudson is an internationally-acclaimed artist known for large-scale sculptures made of everyday materials that are immersive or interactive in nature and often include sound, text and video components. See www.grahamhudson.com. For this project—his first in the United States—Hudson aims to reveal how ALL artistic disciplines share a creative process characterized by experimentation, trial and error, and practice. He is creating an environment to be used for rehearsals only, a space where mistakes—the unexpected and the beautiful—are transformed into art. Hudson further exposes this creative process by opening the rehearsals to the public; as a result, audience size is unpredictable too. Musicians may be playing to no one or to a crowd of 200 (yes, you may promote your rehearsal and invite your friends!). As a collaborative work of art, the outcome is unpredictable and exciting.
Approximately 90 rehearsal slots are available during the course of the exhibition. See below for more information, rehearsal schedule, and how to participate in this once-of-a-lifetime event!
IMPORTANT FACTS
Rehearsal use only.
Rehearsals are approximately 2 to 3 hours in length and open to the public.
Musicians and bands of ALL musical genres and experience levels are invited to participate (indie, country, electro, hip hop, punk, folk, blues, soul, metal, bounce, jazz, bluegrass, experimental, classical, and everything in between!).
Only one rehearsal awarded, unless space is available. Date and time determined by Arthouse.
Basic sound equipment will be provided by Arthouse, including PA, vocal mics, bass amp, guitar amp, keyboard amp, and drum kit. Musicians must provide instruments and other additional equipment, if needed.
A rehearsal schedule will be published online at www.arthousetexas.org, Facebook, and other websites.
Some rehearsals may be recorded or photographed for Arthouse and the creation of an original soundtrack by Hudson. No content will be used without consent.
Musicians are responsible for load in, load out, and running sound. (Additional information and specs will be provided).
Musicians may promote their rehearsals.
All participants will receive a free Arthouse membership!

I spent most of last night cranking up the rap music and coffee so that i could revise, i've realized rap is definately the best music to revise to... off topic but thats what this topic's for.

Last week, I took a short road trip south to San Antonio to see my friends, Salim Nourallah, and Buttercup play a gig. After the show, I ended up meeting a fellow Pirates fan who I learned put on a day party at SXSW 2009 that the band played. Small world moment ![]()

Over the past 2-3 years, I've submitted band recommendations online for the Tom Robinson Introducing show. The show has played most of my recommendations which is really nice, of course. Last week I received an email from one of the show producers asking if I wanted to do a phone interview and talk about SXSW. I'm recording the interview this week for next weekend's show. This past weekend, he played one of my recommendations. You can hear it if you fast forward to 1 hr 44 min into the show : http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00zj52g
