A place to talk about Pete & the Pirates and other things

I just read today that they're confirmed to play during the next SXSW event in Austin TX. SXSW takes place every March.
It's probably my only chance to see them living in Austin. Looking forward to it ! :-)
To the band...how about some Mexican martinis at the Cedar Door ?

I have always wanted to go
can you report back pleases?![]()

Sure thing..will do :-)
Also, BBC Radio does a pretty good job covering the UK bands that appear at SXSW. As it gets closer to the festival, check the websites for BBC 6 and BBC 2. I always see Steve Lamacq, Huw Stevens, and Zane Lowe at SXSW among others.

As luck would have it my family have a trailer 3 hours drive from Austin so I'm hoping to catch SXSW meself ![]()

I'm afraid I won't have much to report as I no longer see the bands name on the festival list.
I guess I'll have to check out Pearl & the Puppets instead ;-).

Hey good news we are indeed going to be there after all.
not sure what shows we are doing yet...more news on that closer to the time.
cedar door: yeah i think we went to this place two years ago (big wooden decked seating area?) more than happy to return again, although perhaps less martinis for some of us this time round!
see some of you there...

Hooray ! I know that the whole SXSW experience can be quite an ordeal sometimes but I'm glad that you'll be able to make it after all :-).
I'm volunteering for the festival (you might find me in the area at the Austin Convention Center where bands pick up their swag bags aka Promotional Materials). I also have a few friends from the UK coming to SXSW who are not in a band but simply enjoy the SXSW festival and visiting Austin.
You described Cedar Door perfectly and yeah...those Mexican martinis can be lethal if you're not careful ;-).

I found a listing for a SXSW party sponsored by Soundcheck Magazine (Fri March 20th at Emo's) :
http://www.do512.com/event/2009/03/20/s … zine-party
Bands listed include : PATP, Dead Confederate, Harlem Shakes, Moth!Fight!, Motel Motel, The Antlers, and Port O'Brien.

Looks like you'll be seeing PATP before any of us then...feeling jealous!

Jealous of me, eh ? LOL
I really appreciate SXSW since it brings bands that might not always get the chance to play in Austin.
The official festival showcase schedule has not been released yet. The party that I listed above is an unofficial event.

Official showcase schedule has been released (subject to change, of course) :
Here's what I found for PATP : http://sxsw.com/music/shows/schedule/?a … mp;s=80302
Thursday, March 19 1:00 a.m.
Wave Rooftop (408 E 6th St)
Friday, March 20 To Be Announced
Cedar Street Courtyard (208 W 4th St)

Is that more or less what you expected?

I think so. Besides a band's official showcase (the gig on the 19th), there are always additional gigs during SXSW week.
Of course, I still have another month to work on who else I would like to see since there are tons of unofficial parties that bands play during the festival (such as the Soundcheck Magazine party that I mentioned).

Found another day show/party...
Wed March 18th
Music For Listeners at Red House Pizzeria (1917 Manor Rd Austin TX)
PATP @ 1:45 pm
I can't make it at that time but how can you beat free music outside a pizzeria ? ;-)
This day party is free and open to the public. No festival badges or wristbands required.

With "invitation only" parties (like the Q mag one), they're understandably intended for those people who have registered to attend the conference.
I'll have a badge like some of the registered folks but I'm only earning it by volunteering.
Edit : I've RSVP'd for the Q party and I've been added to the list :-).

Maybe PATP will play a pre SXSW warm up gig...one can but hope!

Ok...just seen the Reading gig on PATP's myspace page. That is spooky. Just wondering if Thursday night in Reading is a possibility.

Noticed the full list of SXSW gigs on the MySpace page.
Glad to see they're playing the Filter Magazine party at Cedar Street. Filter's SXSW parties are usually pretty good. The stage is located at an outdoor courtyard so hopefully the weather will cooperate during the festival.
It's starting to get warm already with temperatures possibly reaching 80F this week.
To the band, don't forget your sunblock ![]()
