One of my current favorites is one of the bands who played at my birthday party last week. They remind me a little bit of The Libertines and maybe even The Jam. Please forgive if my comparisons are not completely accurate ;-).

Forgive the flurry of posts today, it's a very slow work day...lol.
A couple of more recommendations for y'all. They're a couple of Brits that I know but they call Austin TX their home now.
Nic Armstrong : he's currently playing with a local band called Ripe (http://www.myspace.com/ripemusicatx) but he's also been working on some solo tunes as well. Maybe some of you have heard of him. His previous band, Nic Armstrong and the Thieves, supported Paul Weller on several tour dates in 2004. That band moved to Austin in 2005 and later became known as IV Thieves. That band dissolved in 2007 and slowly but surely, he's been writing more songs and playing with other people. You can find his tunes at http://www.myspace.com/nicarmstrongthegreatestwhiteliar
One of Nic's old bandmates from the Thieves started his own band in late 2007. Shane Lawlor (who played bass and did some singing in IV Thieves) started Electric Touch with 3 guys from Texas. ET retain some Britpop sound but with an American flair to it. They've been lucky enough to play major festivals such as Coachella and Lollapalooza and they supported The Fratellis on their US tour last autumn. Their tunes can be found here : http://www.myspace.com/electrictouchmusic

Any Black Keys fan out there ?
If so, one of the members, Dan Auerbach, has a solo record out and he's been touring all over the place. His solo tour will be in 3 UK cities next month. I haven't properly checked out the record yet but I did see him perform during SXSW. One of the reasons was because I know his backing band (who also happen to be his support act as well). As his backing band, they're called The Fast Five. As the support band, they're called Hacienda. They have a roots rock/garage rock sound. Here's a couple of snippets of what Dan and The Fast Five sounded like together during SXSW : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP8nZvx4mvI and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpu7Fh4AGt4

Really enjoying The See See. A friend of mine who has seen them in London turned me on to them.
Lots of jangly guitars with bits of twangy slide guitar in between. An NME review of their song "Keep Your Head" described them as channeling The La's and The Stone Roses.

The Black and White Years are an Austin band that I've enjoyed over the past year or so. The short description of their sound could be "electro dance rock". It's not all synths though -- plenty of guitars and catchy hooks.
They're coming to London next month where they'll be playing at Wireless Festival on July 4th and 5th.
You can check out their tunes here : http://www.myspace.com/theblackandwhiteyears

We went to the venue anyway actually, which was fab for an intimate gig. Apparently the drummer lost a finger the night before

Neat Beats, here's the latest See See update :
We're celebrating Paulies return to the kit and the departure of part of his finger with a booze up and a very impromptu gig downstairs at the Spice of Life in Cambridge Circus, Soho this Friday.

The lead singer from one of my favorite Austin bands will be in London next week.
His name is Will Thompson. He's the lead singer and songwriter with The Steps. He's playing a solo acoustic set with Jack Fowler on Aug 6th at Lock Tavern. Will is also doing a DJ set on Aug 14th at Old Queens Head.
You can learn more about The Steps here : http://delllounge.com/blogs/featuredart … 2009/07/14

Brendan Benson is mostly known as a member of The Raconteurs but he's also had a fine solo career. His 4th solo release, My Old Familiar Friend, is out on Aug 18th. His solo stuff has a much catchier, poppier vibe than The Raconteurs material.
You can stream his new tunes here : http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor … =111339268
