what do you think
I think on here we are quite lucky that the darlings of pirate land do grace us with their presence to let us know if we are deaf or if there is a gig coming up and also the blog is regularly kept up to date, they are still small and you can if you arent shy go over and say hello get something signed without having to battle through bodyguards. So right now they are very accessible. You know if you have a query there is some way of getting it answered
but in general although musicians might be expected to be accessible through the internet or in person I find a lot of them arent. Yes you might be able to email somewhere but most of the time its not them that will reply
it will be whoever they forwarded the email onto or the email will be for their manager or promoter.
One of the bands I adore came out and said they think its a mistake for bands to be accessible that they lose the mystery that makes them something people want to buy into
for me personally I find this mentality off putting and in this current age actually a bit of a snub to the regular fan who just wants a picture taken or something signed by their favourite band
maybe its the difference between being a big band and a small band
a small band does want to know its fans where the big band cannot

We are indeed a very lucky group of fans! PATP must be the very best band to be a fan of in terms of accessibility!
also the mystery thing is a terriible snub of fans as you say, it means that autographs of the band will be rarer and so the common fan wont have a chance although if you manage to get the autograph you might feel that you've achieved more so there is two sides to it.
also i do think it's more to do with the effort than how they want to be percieved, PATP have a huge effort for their fans but other bands probably cant be bothered relentlessly updating people.

I think petey pirates enjoy it
the blog updates do imply that they are having a lot of fun with a camera and enjoying that people want to read it
its a fine balance I think
you either have to be totally un-accessible or very accessible
I can see why bigger bands dont want to be accessible
fear of losing privacy, too many fans to get around to, and the loss of the showman people pay to see
but I do find it more inspiring to think that a normal person can do well in a profession which is known for being tough than some aloof untouchable unreachable and unidentifible person
you know them just as the star and they are too bright to touch and emulate
Tim Burgess for example lets anyone join his facebook and updates with so much random outpourings you feel that you can relate to him and therefore when he gets on stage its like saying hey you know what you can realise your dreams I did and I'm just like you

Even smaller bands aren't always accessible or at least they're not very active when it comes to things like posting random photos or updating blogs. Some of them are just plain lazy when it comes to things like that ![]()
I think of a couple of bands in my hometown. One of them is very active : posting updates on Twitter, video blogs, handling their street team. Another band is full of really nice, talented guys but the person that posts most of their updates is their manager. Obviously some bands are more extroverted than others.

oh yeah I know what you mean
I do feel bands are expected to be more accessible
and I think they should be
is my feeling in a nut shell
no one is ever going to be as big as Madonna or Michael Jackson so where is the need for the hierarchy and unattainablity
everyone knows now that if you sign yourself up to be big there is that side of it where you are going to have to play nice and sign stuff
if you are putting yourself in the public eye you need to understand that people then will want to meet you
to then go stroppy about it and say gosh I dont like the fact someone wants to ask me a question
sorry but that is what you signed up for
its part and parcel of todays celebrity mentality
