http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=3 … amp;ref=nf

big_smile

12th March
Victoria line now runs later in the evening from Brixton so should make it easier for people to get to and from
although plenty of buses out of Brixton
and its a Friday
let the good times roll

Londonist preview : http://londonist.com/2010/02/live_music … irates.php

You can be forgiven if you missed Pete and the Pirates first time round. The likeable five-piece's debut album came out during the guitar band glut of 2008, when separating the landfill indie from the good stuff was a Herculean task. We won't hold it against you if you didn't bother trying.

Still, if you haven't run into these cheerful chaps before, that's all the more reason to check them out at The Windmill, Brixton on 12 March. Their instantly-accessible guitar pop sound could bring a welcome early dash of summer to the south London venue.

And, before you get worried, "instantly accessible" does not equate to "painfully shallow" in this case. Sure, the group's dissonant guitars and strong harmonies will grab you straight away, but once you start to listen to the bittersweet, playful lyrics you'll realise they have more depth than you'd get from a whole truckload of Scouting for Girls clones. (Sorry, we didn't mean to swear.)

Part Mystery Jets, part Beach Boys, it's the shambolic, romantic, not-too-apathetic combination of wistful words and immediately catchy tunes which makes Pete and the Pirates gigs worth the entrance fee.

Pete and the Pirates play The Windmill, Brixton on 12 March.

take a good look at yourself/and take it all in

It's infectious and who doesn't like pirates?

Hearing you. Got the "The Whip" tomorrow but it's merely the hor's d'oeuvre to Friday's maincourse. What other gigs you got then bbee? (forgive me if on another thread). I can't keep up with you and poptartjen! smile

Re: Pirates at the Windmill

Anyone know the set up at the Windmill?  Can you get into the pub without a ticket?  Plan to meet up with some friends but I hold the tickets so don't know whether to meet elsewhere.

Re: Pirates at the Windmill

its a wonderfully small and relaxed venue
the friend I was going with to the Tap Tap gig was mega late so I went in and they let her in after just let them know
even if you have to get them to call you before hand to go and meet them at the door it will be fine

Ok well this week has seen two Automatic and Straight Lines gigs in Oxford and Colchester, tonight was Get Well Soon and tomorrow is Stereophonics at Wembley
just keeping enough back for Pirates with each gig and have been rather sedate and almost lady like in my appreciation of the music
I dislike this approach

Re: Pirates at the Windmill

well that was fun
saved enough energy to have a little more reserved dance about
boy am I going to pay for that tomorrow as my back is killing
wrong man and cold black kitty made an appearance
this thyme however didn't as apparently they cant remember it BOOOOOOOO
although if I am honest I was more than happy Motorbike was back and could live without This Thyme
very hot and sweaty
I am knackered so off now to dissolve into a puddle of DNA hopefully to be reconstituted at some point next week in time for The Stranglers

Re: Pirates at the Windmill

Had a ball last night.  Great little venue and enjoyable mixture of old and new songs.  Slightly hungover now though...paying for thinking tequila was a good idea.  Hey ho.

Re: Pirates at the Windmill

Bit late reporting but enjoyed gig as always. Also glad that Motorbike returned but would have liked one or two more of the new ones.I liked the size of the venue but lets be honest it's a grim little prefab-esque hole in equally grim Brixton. Ofcourse, that's got to be good for a gig hasn't it? smile  Jeez I'm definately ageing because in all honesty i think i'm swaying in The Lexington/ Tooting Tram & Social  (recent P&TP fayre) direction in terms of preference.

Re: Pirates at the Windmill

I dont think you would find anything other than a hole in Brixton, tongue
but it serves ginger beer which makes me very happy esp as everywhere is heading over to pepsi which is inferior in so many ways
yuk

yes please to tram and social I want a reason to go

Aint you local? Was in there last night purely for ale-age. I'd heartily recommend you just pop in at about 8.30pm of a Friday eve to get a feel for the place. I'm sure you'd be impressed to have it just down the road to you.
