Amazing gig at Heaven the other night. New songs working really well live - especially Half Moon Street. But why the short set? Less than an hour and off the stage before 10pm??

I only really missed "Motorbike" greatly, maybe "Come on feet" too. Probably only a couple of songs short for me. They are so good they do leave you wanting more. Not necessarily a terrible thing, tickets were very reasonably priced so fair enough?
Very accomplised night. Personally i'm in it for the jangly guitar/melody/rhythm and harmonies so i wasn't too fussed about more keyboardy fayre but even then, I couldn't help bobbing my head, singing and tapping my trotters to said numbers. That's what they do to you. I love early Charlatans and there is serious keyboard work in there so i see a route through.
Thought the total song selection was pretty much spot on. Vital they leave "Lost in the woods" and "Bright Lights" in a set, that was inspired. I reckon the essence of what is best about them is absolutely tied into these type of tracks. Ideally I want the "jumping about" stuff at a gig with a slower psychadelic number (like Can't Fish) thrown in about every 4th song. Gig perfection. This was in the ballpark. What utter bollo* in the music press about maturing and the like. There is nothing about these tracks that requires maturing thank you very much (not musically anyway). Heard slightly sneering "chirpy indie guitar protagonists" references to the band too. All very patronising. "Chirpy Indie guitar" is absolutely tremendous and there speaks a middle aged (according to too many) git, soon to be requiring 2 up tempo songs puntuated by one slower.
The biggest shock of the night was that Tom smiled at one point, quite broadly infact. I can confirm, the guy's face works! He sipped red wine and sported a splendid smart shirt (albeit with piratey anchors). Very un-rock and roll. Even if it that was at all contrived (which it proabaly wasn't) you have to appreciate the two fingers up to the way that things have to be done. The atmosphere was great with good applause and general noise. Seemed pretty full to me but then i was near the front and couldn't entirely judge. Class.

Thanks for the gig reports. I'm very envious of y'all right now, I tell you !
At least my signed CD, T-shirt, and tote bag arrived this week ![]()
NB, I think I saw that smile you described during SXSW at the St Patrick's Day party ![]()

I did see a sign for 'Gay porn Idol' every Thursday 11pm to 3am, I expect they had to vacate the stage in plenty of time for that and I understand giving that a good clear hour.
The gig itself was superb, good crowd right down to where I was about 2/3rds back. Thought the sound was absolutely spot on & the lighting was just right too. First time I've seen them live, so many highlights but version of Blood Gets Thin was the highlight & reminded me of Gomez' How We Operate from their last tour. Tom built a good rapport with the crowd, I'd like to hear more from him next time. Their musical ability is way bigger than the venues on this tour and I hope they start to get the level of sales they deserve. Only thing I'd like to see different is a slightly slower pace somehow, maybe a section of 2 or 3 slower tracks or a few longer arrangements.
Would have liked another half hour or so but even with only a couple of albums & EP's behind them they'd never be able to play every track you'd like and for just a tenner you got 3 bands if you wanted to see them all.
Thought I saw a poster up for another London date in the Autumn, I hope I saw that right & look forward to it.
.... apparently, I did see a poster ..... http://www.scala-london.co.uk/scala/event.php?id=1625
