...and well done to Stolen Recordings btw for best small label at the AIM Independent Music Awards. Seeing two of their stable in the next couple of weeks so I figured they might be doing something very right!

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

This is my gig recommendation for London based folk. My friends from Austin, Wiretree, are playing at Bull and Gate this Sat, Nov 19th. Lovely people and I know that at least half the band (lead singer and bass player are PATP fans big_smile).

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

Stupidly good week for booking. Thought I might have seen the last of The Charlatans given that they've gone all bland on me. This despite 20 years of love and giggage. But no, a "Tellin Stories" show is in the offing and i'm all things "in". History of Apple Pie, Sulk, Maccabees and The Cribs all in for Jan/Feb....and let's be honest New Years Eve is generally over rated and over priced but this year will be the best since P&TP rocked up to Koko. Basically, The Wedding Present at Dingwalls. Bl**dy marvellous!!

Merry Xmas to everyone here btw!  Shed Seven tonight. Normally hate covers but they always throw in the instrumental bit of "I am the ressurrection" that is simply immense.

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

Things will pick up again gigwise after Christmas and New Years. The first week in Austin amongst several venues (18 or 19 of them, I think) is known as Free Week. Tons of local bands play free shows for just over a week. I'll be out of town for most of FW but I'll be back for the end of it including a few shows in time for celebrating my birthday (Jan 6th). I'm going to need a holiday after my holiday big_smile.

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

Cribs at ULU tonight. Delighted they're a 3 piece again. My god the music scene (or my section of it)  is so "wet" at the moment I'm finding it hard to find things I want to go to. The time must be right for a punk revival or something surely?

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

how did you find it?

not been that excited about a band coming back to the stage for ages and they didnt disappoint, I love the new stuff, Glitters Like Gold (the heavier one after Be Safe was my favourite from the lot)
They aren't quite a 3 piece again as they have the guitarist from Nine Black Alps acting as a session guitarist for them but my god its so refreshing to have them go back to their original sounds.
recently I have been listening to a lot harder music like Nails and High on Fire so this return is welcomed

Yeah, I smiled when I was there thinking "how assumptive of me" when spotting said new guitarist. Only a part time member though for "livies"
which they would need to play their 4 piece tunes maybe. Thought I recognised him. I fec*kin love Nine Black Alps and dont think theyve done much in London since about 3 years ago when i took 2 newbies to their Dingwalls gig (which converted said "wet behind the ears" clientele).
Think i enjoyed Cribs gig as much if not more than any time i'd seen them before. Maybe a bit "namby pamby" for diehards but I can't be truly happy without "Moving Pictures" and "girls like mystery" though  smile .
Anyway glad you are gigging again! Dont think you've been missing much. Seeing Spotlight Kid at The macbeth tonight, at last something "new" to look forward to, My Bloody Valentine Ripoff or not.

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

Going to Cribs in May too BB. Pleased with their single. You? Proper raw music again from them (for me). Anyone manage to land tickets for The Hives at Borderline? Cant believe it, I got a reference and everything and then when hitting the "pay" button got all things "sold out". Went on sale at 9 and this was 9.04ish. Missed the flippin "where did you find us?" question and had to back page, wasting 30 seconds or something. Tried again from the start and "no tickets" showed immediately so I'm sure I was a hair's breadth from success. Buckled under pressure. As, you can tell, it hasn't bothered me or anything. Ah well, The Shutes at Camden Barfly instead of The Hives this week. Lke a couple of their tunes only but that's how desperate I am for gig action in the desert that is the current music scene. Can our Pirate friends put some guitar tracks out there cause i'm really friggin bored.

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

I am loving what I am hearing but cannot afford Troxy unfortunately and also cannot face the nightmare journey I would have to get there, so will miss this one and wait for the next one. Will be the first UK tour I have missed since 2005 but can't be wasting money when I need to get a proper job first.

Didn't know about The Hives, but that would have been immense they are such a great live band.
Did manage to catch Casino both times in London, who were fantastic such an under rated band.

Now its just Willy Mason and Hawk Eyes

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

I'm seeing The Duke Spirit this Fri at a small gig with 2 local bands. It's a taping for an Austin based music site called Transistor Six. They're playing again the following night supporting Jane's Addiction. The supporting gig is too pricey for me. I would have bought a ticket if I was a Jane's Addiction fan.

You may already know this but if you buy a Cribs record at Banquet Records Kingston (i.e. new album £8), you get a FREE ticket for The Cribs at New Slang (again) May 31st. Now if that isn't value i've no idea what is!!

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

So Cribs at Kingston on Thurs...i simply wont believe you're not going BB! Hell you could buy the album, sell it for a quid less or something and get in almost freeee. Not undermining the tough times mind, no laughing matter and thank gawd for great tunes! The Charlatans doin Tellin Stories next week (my god they were good then) . Just purchased for Jeff The Brotherhood at all things "The Garage" in August. Supported by Bo Ningen so it is a bit of a "Stolen" fest. Cant P&TP get in on it and do an acoustic version of some new tunes or something? I'll tell you if they're up to scratch on here wink

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

didn't go, couldn't get a ticket despite them having plenty left over I had to rebuy the album which I refused to do as I had friends who hadn't had to buy the album and could buy something else which is what I wanted to do. So by the time I got offered a ticket I had lost interest and went to see Willy Mason instead at an instore in Carnaby Street
a good decision by all accounts as New Slang was reported back to me as being half empty, and I met Willy Mason who I have loved for as long as I have loved The Cribs
So I ended up having a great night big_smile

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

This is my kind of half empty gig smile

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jEfAQymGFs

It was The Cribs who insisted on the method of ticket sales, they wanted something more personal. There were definately less around the bar areas for sure. Best i've seen them which admittedly did surprise me. Hope The Charlatans match it tomorrow.

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

yeah so I heard, but they had a flaw in their method, namely announcing the gig on the week of release when most of the loyal fanbase had already received their copy and were not interested in buying another. Yes admittedly I used to buy more than one copy of an album but times are tough and money is tight. I do not have such means to be so frivolous. This along with a couple of other things has sadly dampened my enthusiasm for the band, their music is still wonderful but I no longer feel so inclined to be as passionate about them as I once was. I hope this changes.

Have fun at Charlies, big_smile

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

Mmmm, gonna watch the England game tonight down the road at Hampton Court. Then hop across the road for the last hour of the Squeeze gig at Hampton Court Fest. If we're either winning or losing by a shedload at 9 I 'll get the whole gig in. Haven't got a ticket but maybe a late knockdown one available and at the very worst I can listen to it sitting by the river outside.

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

Hey BB was it you banging on about Straight Lines a while back? You may or may not know they are booked at Kingston New Slang for 4th Oct it seems. mind you (and further good news I think) New Slang has moved back to the McCluskys venue on the river, I assume they will still be there!

Re: What gigs do you have coming up?

The big gig coming up is Austin City Limits Festival in mid-Oct. There are big headliners such as Neil Young, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, along with up and coming bands, and a handful of popular local bands (my friends from Quiet Company were invited to play this year). I'll be volunteering at the fest at the water stations - 4 hrs a day of "work" for 3 days to see a big festival for FREE smile
